Here you will find updates about the young people’s activities and projects and find out what is happening next! Your main contact at Creetown Initiative for all things youth related is Amy-Dee Tighe –

So if you are a parent, young person or community member and have a question regarding current youth groups and activities, would like to raise a concern about youth provision in the village, would like to seek advice on any youth issues, would like to volunteer at youth activities or just want to know what’s going on, please do send Amy an email, drop by the Creetown Initiative office or phone 01671 820654.

We have a Senior Youth Club run by Amy and her youth work team, Jody, Stacey and June, on Thursday nights at the Youth and Leisure Hall 7pm – 9pm for young people in S1 – S6 or first year at college.

Each session costs only £1 per young person and this includes a drink and small snack. There is a tuck shop, which is very popular with the young people and stocks sweets and drinks. Different activities are organised for each week, including sports nights, arts and crafts, t-shirt designing, film nights, smoothie making, quiz nights, games nights, talent nights and so on.

We also organise people to come in to the youth club to run specialist activities or give talks. So far we have had Dave Groves from NHS Building Healthy Communities visit to teach healthy cookery and the young people have prepared and cooked from raw ingredients pasta dishes, chilli chicken garlic, healthy beef burgers, healthy coleslaw and fruit kebabs with chocolate sauce. We have also had a sex education talk from Kirsty McKie from the NHS, a HeartStart emergency lifesaving course from local HeartStart practitioners, a talk from the local Cadets branch, a good citizenship talk from Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary and a body art session by a local artist.10362941_1542994909294895_5336632124850360229_n

Even more exciting, we organise trips for youth club members! Past trips have included water sports at Loch Ken, horse riding at Calgow Equestrian, outdoor activities at Laggan Outdoor Centre, Blair Drummond Safari Park trip, go-karting and bowling in Ayr, rock climbing and snowboarding in Glasgow, cinema trip to Newton Stewart and a week long residential trip to London!

The youth club is open to any local young person aged 11 – 17; just come along and give it a go!
